Chanson

The world’s most refined wines appealing to connoisseurs and gourmands are made in Burgundy. These wines, especially the red ones, are more difficult to understand than those of Bordeaux.

Founded in 1750, Chanson belongs to the first generation of companies which were established in Beaune in the 18th century and is the second oldest Burgundy’s negociant. Being one of five Beaune’s grand estates, Domaine Chanson is the second largest landowner. Its holdings comprise 38 hectares of the inhouse vineyards classified as Premier and Grand Crus. They are located in the four key regions of Cote äÎð: Corton, Beaune, Ñàâèíüè and Pernand Vergelesses, the percentage of the company’s “domaine” wines (those from the own vineyards) being higher than that of other major negociants. The Premier Cru vineyard, Clos des Feves, is Chanson’s monopoly. At one of the latest master-classes run by Christie, Chanson Clos des Feves 1991 was considered to be the best of the best out of 10 Premier Cru Beaune. Together with Hospices de Beaune, Chanson still remains one of the major owners of the premier Cru vineyards in Beaune.

In addition to the “domaine” wines the estate makes a wide range of wines as negociant-eleveur, purchasing grapes from small private winegrowers and unlike most of the negociant houses performing all the processes by itself.

In 2004 ten of Chanson’s wines were mentioned in France’s major wine guide Hachette. For reference the second place was taken by Æîçåô Äðóåí (7 wines) and the third by Áóøà (6 wines). The Director General of Domaine Chanson, Gilles de Courcel, was considered to be the Man of the Year by the La Revue du Vin de France magazine.
